The Dark Knight

Wow! I've just got back from seeing "The Dark Knight" and I must say I'm stunned. What an absolutely fantastic film. I must say that I had reservations about it before seeing it. Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker was getting rave reviews and I, some what cynically, thought they critics may be overpraising it in light of his recent death. I'm pleased to say that this isn't the case. It is a genuinely amazing performance, worthy of the praise that it has received. However, don't make the mistake that this is a one man film. It has some great performances all round. Gary Oldman is particularly noteworthy with his subtle and understated portrayal of Commissioner Gordon. The story too is excellent, with an intelligent study of the nature of good and evil, and their contextual dependence on each other. Full marks to director Christopher Nolan and his team for giving us a clever, thought provoking and genuinely exciting Hollywood blockbuster.
